Jens Lekman (or Rocky Dennis as he was called then) had already become a pop phenomenon in Sweden, when his debut EP "Maple Leaves" was released in October 2003. It reached #11 on the Swedish singles chart, is still in the charts after 22 weeks. He said good bye to his aka with the limited edition follow-up "Rocky Dennis in Heaven", which was sold out before it's release. Now his debut album "When I Said I Wanted To Be Your Dog" is released world-wide in April. Click for high resolution version

Jens Lekman hit Sweden like a bomb with his timeless elegant music. With elements as big sounding string and brass arrangements, a capella, beautiful harmonic vocals he constructs his own world of perfect pop. Still only being 23 years old his voice and song writing already sound mature. He lives in a small apartment with his two budgiebirds in Kortedale, in the suburbs of Gothenburg. Here he writes and records his songs.

He toured Sweden under the name of Rocky Dennis together with Josč Gonzales and Broder Daniel last year. The tour ended in the concert hall of Gothenburg, performing before 1300 focused and silent listeners.

Click for high resolution versionThe first time you hear him, you'll have no problem imagining him sitting alone in the years of his boyhood, giving birth to his musical treasures, the perfect pop that are now finally going out into the big world. His songs sounds pationate, but are performed with a somewhat distant narrative voice.

The songs instantly sounds like classics - as if they've always been there. He's been called a pop crooner, which might have something to do with his orchestral arrangements, lyrics balancing between the tragical and comical, and with a voice from heaven...
